| THE POLLACK TOTAL APPROACH: APPLICANT GUIDE TO SUCCESSFUL INTERVIEWING
HOW
TO OVERCOME INTERVIEW PROBLEMS AND INCREASE
YOUR CHANCES OF LANDING THAT JOB:
If you have followed these tips closely, chances are that you will make a very good impression. If, at this point, you have decided that the position you've applied for is what you really want, the following are further suggestions on how to get the person to say, "You're Hired".
- Tell the employer at the end of the interview, "Mr. Employer, now that we have discussed my qualifications and the job, I am confident that I will be able to make a meaningful contribution to your company. I am really interested, and I am ready to continue with the hiring process. - What do you Think"?
- WAIT FOR AN ANSWER - do not say anything until the employer has replied to the above statement.
- IF THE EMPLOYER RAISES ANY
OBJECTIONS OR DOES NOT SEEM SURE
answer with the following: "You
do not seem convinced Mr. Employer.
Can you tell me what your concerns
are? " Try to deal with them
as honestly as you can. Offer a strength
to compensate for a weakness or re-emphasize
a qualification he didn't realize
you had.
- IF THE EMPLOYER SAYS YOU
DON'T HAVE ENOUGH EXPERIENCE
answer with the following: "Can
you tell me what I am missing? Mr.
Employer, do you not feel that someone
like me, given the challenge to tackle
something new and different, eager
to take courses, will do it much more
enthusiastically, and therefore better
in the long run? Wouldn't you? Let
me prove to you that hiring ME was
indeed the right choice." Wait
for an answer, do not say anything
first! If other objections are raised
try to overcome them. If not, be very
polite, thank him for his time, and
ask him to consider you for other
opportunities. Most employers are
impressed by people who show determination.
- IF THE EMPLOYER SAYS HE MUST CHECK REFERENCES. This is the perfect opportunity to produce written letters. If you can make sure you have written down the names, titles, company names, current phone numbers, and addresses, have them handy. Having the correct information is important as it makes it easier for the employer to contact these people so that he can act promptly.
